December casino revenue in Maryland rises 5% to $165.6 million.
Maryland Maryland's December revenue of $157.7 million was up 5% from November's total. Donations to the state went up from $69.7 million to $70.2 million as well.
Among the six privately held casinos in the state, MGM National Harbour remained the frontrunner in December, raking in $70.8 million.
Just behind Live! Casino & Hotel with $60.6m was Horseshoe Casino, which is owned by Caesars Entertainment and came in third with $15.2m in December revenue. There was a significant disparity between the two.
With only $4.4 million, Rocky Gap Casino ranked last for the month. Compared to the next worst-performing operator at Hollywood Casino, this was $3.2 million behind.
Revenue in Maryland has been flat since the state's November 2022 launch of its sports betting market.
The year-over-year gain of Maryland's revenue in December is less remarkable than the month-over-month increase.
Revenue for the month of December 2023 came in at $165.6m, up barely 0.2% from $165.2m in the corresponding month of the previous year. There was a meagre 0.7% rise in state contributions as well.
When compared to the same month a year ago, Horseshoe Casino's sales were down 9.6 percent and Rocky Gap Casino's were down 8.2 percent, respectively, hurting the year-on-year figures.
There was only a 2.1% gain from the previous year at even the frontrunner, MGM National Harbour. Revenues at Live! Casino and Hotel, the runner-up, increased by a meagre 1.5% compared to December 2022.
